MVP celebrates National Volunteer Month

April is National Volunteer Month and MVP recognized the winners of the Madison Visionary Awards at the April 10 City Council meeting. A big part of our mission is to foster volunteerism in our community. The Madison Visionary Awards, held on March 30, honors the individuals who make our community a great place to live, work and play.

Clockwise from top left: Melanie Thornton and Mayor Finley with Elizabeth Servidio, Community Volunteer of the Year, Olivia Downs, Youth Volunteer of the Year, Debbie Overcash, Madison Visionary of the Year, and Mary Grace Evans with Redstone Federal Credit Union, Philanthropic Business of the Year.

"Every one of our nominees and winners have a commitment to service that has made a lasting impact on our community," said Melanie Thornton, Executive Director of MVP. "Volunteerism is an important piece of Madison's quality of life and we are so proud to have so many people doing good work here."

While a date has not been set for the second annual awards program, Thornton is looking forward to celebrating this time next year again. "We are definitely going to make this an annual event. The feedback we have received has been wonderful and I think this will hopefully encourage more people to get out and volunteer."
